What does "days from today" mean?
"Days from today" is simply today's date plus a number of days. Ask "what date is 90 days from today?" and you are adding 90 calendar days to the current date. It answers the everyday questions that are surprisingly easy to get wrong in your head: when a 90-day return window closes, when a 30-day notice period ends, when a 14-day free trial expires, or what date a 100-day countdown lands on. How to count days from today by hand
Adding days to a date is straightforward as long as you handle month lengths correctly. Work through it in order:
- Start from today. Note today's date and how many days remain in the current month.
- Subtract the days left this month. Take them off your total to roll into the next month.
- Walk forward month by month. Keep subtracting full months (28, 29, 30, or 31 days each) until the remainder is smaller than the next month's length.
- Land on the day. The leftover number is the day-of-month in the final month — that is your target date.
A common shortcut is to assume "30 days = one month," but that drifts: 90 days is not exactly three calendar months, because three calendar months can total 89, 90, 91, or 92 days depending on which months they are. When the exact date matters — a legal deadline, a warranty, a visa window — count the actual days rather than the months.
Worked example: what date is 90 days from today?
Suppose today is Monday, 1 June 2026, and a store gives you 90 days to return an item. To check the deadline, set the days from today calculator to 90. Here is exactly how it lands on the answer.
Step 1 — Use up the rest of June
From 1 June there are 29 days left in June (June has 30 days). Subtract: 90 − 29 = 61 days remaining, and you are now at the start of July.
Step 2 — Pass through July and August
July has 31 days: 61 − 31 = 30 days remaining, now at the start of August. August also has 31 days, which is more than the 30 left — so the target lands inside August.
Step 3 — Read the target date
With 30 days into August, the date is 30 August 2026. The calculator confirms it and shows the weekday: 30 August 2026 is a Sunday. So a return window opened on 1 June 2026 closes on Sunday, 30 August 2026.

Calendar days vs. business days
This calculator counts calendar days — every day, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Many deadlines, though, are stated in business days (working days), which skip weekends and usually public holidays. The two can differ by a lot over a long span.
Because a week has 5 working days out of 7, business days run roughly 7/5 longer on the calendar. As a quick estimate, 10 business days is about 14 calendar days (two weeks), and 90 business days is around 18 working weeks — well over four calendar months.

Business-day results skip Saturdays and Sundays only; they do not subtract public holidays, which vary by country and would push the date later still.
Counting days before today (and inclusive vs. exclusive)
The same logic runs in reverse. To find a date in the past — "what was 90 days ago?" — you subtract instead of add, walking backward through each month. From Monday 1 June 2026, 90 days earlier is 3 March 2026 (a Tuesday), because 2026 is not a leap year, so February has 28 days.
One more thing to settle is whether you count inclusively or exclusively. "30 days from today" normally means today plus 30 days — today itself is day zero, not day one. But some contracts and court rules count the start day as day one, which shifts the result by a day. When a deadline is legally important, read the wording: "within 30 days of" a date can be interpreted either way.
