What are working days between two dates?
Working days — also called business days or weekdays — are the days from Monday to Friday. This working days calculator counts how many of those weekdays fall between a start date and an end date, ignoring every Saturday and Sunday in between. Enter your two dates and the total updates instantly.
One important detail to know up front: this tool counts Monday-to-Friday only and does not remove public holidays. If a national or bank holiday lands on a weekday inside your range, it is still counted as a working day here, because holidays differ by country, region, and industry. Subtract any holidays that apply to you separately.
How to calculate working days between two dates
The calculator walks day by day from the earlier date toward the later date and tallies every weekday it passes. Conceptually you can do the same thing in three steps:
- Start from the earlier date and step forward one day at a time toward the later date.
- For each day, check the weekday. If it is Saturday or Sunday, skip it. If it is Monday through Friday, add one to the count.
- Stop when you reach the end date. The end date itself is not counted — it marks the finish line.
A worked example using the working days calculator
Sam starts a project on Monday 1 June 2026 and the deadline is Saturday 6 June 2026. How many working days does Sam actually have? Here is exactly how the calculator counts them.
Step 1 — Identify the weekdays in the range
The calculator steps from 1 June up toward 6 June. The days it passes are Mon 1, Tue 2, Wed 3, Thu 4, and Fri 5 June. Saturday 6 June is the end date — the finish line — so it is not counted.
Step 2 — Skip the weekends
In this short range there are no Saturdays or Sundays before the end date, so nothing is skipped. Every day from Monday to Friday counts.
Step 3 — Read the result
That leaves five weekdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The calculator shows 5 days, with the note "Mon-Fri only." (Because the deadline lands on a Saturday, a spreadsheet using NETWORKDAYS would report 5 too.)

Working days vs calendar days
Calendar days count every day on the calendar, including Saturdays and Sundays. Working days count only weekdays. That gap matters for deadlines: "net 30 days" and "30 business days" describe very different amounts of time, because 30 business days is roughly six calendar weeks once you add the weekends back.
A full seven-day week always contains exactly 5 working days and 2 weekend days. So as a quick rule of thumb, a stretch of calendar days holds about five-sevenths as many working days — but the exact answer depends on which weekday your range starts and ends on, which is why a calculator beats mental arithmetic.

Does this calculator subtract public holidays?
No. It counts every weekday (Monday to Friday) in your range and does not remove public or bank holidays. Holidays vary by country, region, and industry, so you should subtract the ones that apply to you separately.
Are Saturday and Sunday counted as working days?
No. Saturdays and Sundays are always treated as weekend days and are never counted. Only Monday through Friday are counted as working days.
Why might this differ from Excel's NETWORKDAYS by one day?
This calculator treats the end date as a finish line and does not count it (an exclusive-end convention). Excel's NETWORKDAYS counts both the start and end dates. So when your end date is itself a weekday, NETWORKDAYS can report one more day. The two agree whenever the end date falls on a weekend.
How many working days are there in 2026?
There are 261 weekdays in 2026 (counting 1 January through 31 December), before any public holidays are removed. The default range shown in the calculator, 1 January to 31 December, reads 260 because the end date — 31 December, a Thursday — is the finish line and is not itself counted.
