What this shoe size calculator does
This shoe size calculator and converter translates a size you already know into the equivalent in another system — US Men, US Women, EU, and UK. Pick the system you're starting from, type your size, choose the system you want, and the matched size appears instantly. It's the fast way to answer questions like "what is a US men's 10 in EU sizing?" without hunting through a brand's chart.
Sizing is a mess across countries because each system was built independently: the US and UK scales count in barleycorns (a third of an inch) from different zero points, while the EU (Paris point) scale measures the last in two-thirds of a centimetre. The numbers therefore never line up — a single pair of feet can be a 10, an 11.5, a 44, and a 9.5 all at once. The converter does that cross-walk for you so you can shop confidently across US, UK, and European brands.
How to measure your foot length at home
Before you convert a size, it helps to know your true foot length — that's what every size system ultimately encodes. You only need a sheet of paper, a pencil, and a ruler. Work through these steps:
- Tape paper to a hard floor against a wall. A hard surface stops the paper sliding, and the wall gives you a clean heel reference.
- Stand on the paper with your heel to the wall. Wear the socks you'd wear with the shoes, and put your full weight on the foot — feet spread and lengthen when loaded.
- Trace around the foot with the pencil held straight up at 90°, marking the back of the heel and the tip of your longest toe.
- Measure heel-to-toe in centimetres (and inches) along the longest part of the outline.
- Measure both feet and use the larger one. Most people have one foot bigger than the other — fit the bigger foot.
- Measure in the afternoon or evening. Feet swell through the day and are at their smallest first thing in the morning.
The foot-length to shoe-size formula (Brannock)
Once you have a foot length, the standard US relationship is the one built into the Brannock Device — the metal measuring tool you stand on in shoe shops. It turns a length in inches into a US shoe size with a simple linear rule, with the men's and women's scales offset by one size:
From that US size, the converter above does the rest of the cross-walk into UK and EU. Note the calculator on this page does not take a foot length as input — it converts between size systems. Use this formula to find your starting US size, then use the widget to translate it to UK or EU.
US, UK, EU & cm shoe size conversion chart
This chart is the exact lookup the converter above uses. Read across any row to see the same foot in every system. The approximate foot length column is derived from the Brannock formula (length in inches = (US men's size + 22) ÷ 3) and is a guide only — brand fit varies.
| US Men | US Women | EU | UK | Approx. foot length |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 7.5 | 39 | 5.5 | 23.7 cm / 9.3 in |
| 7 | 8.5 | 40 | 6.5 | 24.6 cm / 9.7 in |
| 8 | 9.5 | 41 | 7.5 | 25.4 cm / 10.0 in |
| 9 | 10.5 | 42.5 | 8.5 | 26.2 cm / 10.3 in |
| 10 | 11.5 | 44 | 9.5 | 27.1 cm / 10.7 in |
| 11 | 12.5 | 45 | 10.5 | 27.9 cm / 11.0 in |
| 12 | 13.5 | 46 | 11.5 | 28.8 cm / 11.3 in |
US/US-Women/EU/UK columns match the converter's built-in table exactly. Foot length is derived from the Brannock formula (brannock.com) and is approximate.
Men's vs women's shoe size conversion
US men's and women's sizes use the same length scale but a different zero point, so for the same foot a women's size is about 1.5 larger than the men's size. That single offset is why "unisex" sneakers are usually listed in men's sizing — a women's 11.5 and a men's 10 are the same shoe.
EU and UK scales are unisex by length, so they don't carry this offset — one EU 44 is one EU 44 regardless of the men's/women's label. When you switch a shoe between US men's and US women's in the converter, the EU and UK numbers stay put while the US number shifts by 1.5; that's the offset in action.
A worked example using the shoe size converter
Marco wears a US men's 10 and wants to order a pair from a European brand that lists EU sizes. Here's exactly how the converter handles it — and what the same foot is in every other system.
Step 1 — Set the size and the 'from' system
Marco types 10 in Size, sets From to US Men, and sets To to EU. The converter finds the US men's 10 row in its table.
Step 2 — Read the EU result
The matched EU size is 44, so Marco orders an EU 44. If he switched To to UK he'd see 9.5, and switching to US Women would show 11.5 — all the same physical shoe.
Step 3 — Cross-check against the chart
Reading the US men's 10 row of the chart above confirms it: US Men 10 = US Women 11.5 = EU 44 = UK 9.5, roughly a 27.1 cm foot. That's the converter's full cross-walk from a single input.
Common shoe size questions
What is a US men's 10 in EU and UK sizes?
A US men's 10 is an EU 44 and a UK 9.5. The same foot is a US women's 11.5 and is roughly 27.1 cm (10.7 in) long.
How do I convert men's to women's shoe sizes?
Add 1.5 to a US men's size to get the US women's size for the same foot, or subtract 1.5 to go the other way. So a men's 8 is a women's 9.5, and a women's 10.5 is a men's 9. EU and UK numbers don't change between men's and women's.
How do I measure my foot for the right shoe size?
Stand on paper with your heel to a wall, trace your foot, and measure heel-to-longest-toe in centimetres. Do both feet and use the larger one, measuring in the afternoon when feet are at their largest. Match that length to the chart above or to a brand's size guide.
How this converter works and sources
This tool is a size-system converter: it looks your size up in a fixed US/US-Women/EU/UK table and returns the matching size in your target system, snapping to the nearest whole US men's size (6–12). It does not take a foot measurement as input — the foot-length figures and the Brannock formula on this page are reference material for finding your starting US size. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere. Conversions and the foot-length formula are standard, well-documented footwear references.
